I'm a photo-derivative artist who's work is dedicated to demonstrating the beauty and diversity of individual people. My images are not about sexuality per se. Although the older I get the more I'm amazed to realize that there is nothing that someone cannot construe to be sexual. But few people have a hard time distinguishing my work from porn. Beauty inspires me. You won't find any gore or blood here. You probably wont find many "edgy" images either. I love to make people look good -- and there are plenty of other photographers out there who seem to enjoy making people look frightened, depressed or lonely -- there's no need for me to do the same. Most of my work is about the female form, though I maintain a small number of male images in my portfolio for balance and contrast. Most Americans aren't as ready to view male nudes -- but that does not mean that the male body is less compelling -- merely that Americans aren't as compelled to look at them. For 30 years I made architecture and landscapes my primary photographic focus. Several years ago I started focussing the insight I developed in those fields onto the surface upon the human body. Body landscapes, or "bodyscapes" have become a passion. I am amazed at how people who all share two legs and two arms and one neck and one torso can be so hugely different from each other. There are no ugly humans. And the diversity of the human form is amazing. While I make women look attractive, sexy even, my work is not specifically about sexuality. My focus is the diversity that makes us human; different sizes, different shapes, young and old, tight and wrinkled, tiny and plus sized. The two images on this page are both landscapes. One is found in S.W. Wisconsin -- the other is of a 30 yr old model. Both images feature curvy lines, texture, and a contrast between light and dark. My models are volunteers. Men and women who are comfortable in their own skin, who want to remember how great they looked at this age -- whatever that age might be -- find their way into my studio where we often celebrate major events in their lives: a marriage, a divorce, a child arriving, the arrival of empty nest time, weight loss or muscle tone painfully developed in the gym. And some of my models aren't celebrating anything at all, they simply enjoy their body and aren't ashamed. |
